Wetscapes
Wetscapes are photomontages that offer fleeting stories about Africa’s threatened and endangered wildlife and their relationship to water. They portray my experiences sharing a habitat for several hours, or days, and sometimes years (if I revisit a familiar location). I observe their secret worlds—such as a hidden waterhole during a respite from draught and predators—settings for unfinished stories.
There is an ever-increasing pressure on wilderness to accommodate Africa’s population, which is expected to grow by 2 billion by the end of the century. The cost is a loss of habitat for Africa’s wildlife. When a species loses its habitat, it becomes extinct. Since 2016, I’ve worked in the African diaspora to first captivate, then educate the viewer about the critical need to coexist with endangered wildlife. If we don’t protect our wildlife, our planet dies.
